LIBRARY SECTIONS

  1. Circulation Section
  2. This section represents the hub of library activities where lending out of books to readers is facilitated. Functioning of this section includes registration of new members, lending of books, reminders for overdue books, reservation of books, renewal of membership cards, records and files, statistics, and inter-library loans etc. Issue and return of books are provided from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no issue on Sundays/holidays. However, reference books are provided for reading during working hours only. Back volumes and current journals are issued for study in Library and photostat only.

  3. Textbooks Section
  4. The Textbooks Section in the Library stacks all the textbooks for the users that are to be issued. Textbooks are used the students for their learning in various subjects and courses. SGT Libraries has approx. 70000 textbooks in various subjects to cater for the needs of all the different courses in the library.

  5. Reference Books Section
  6. A dedicated section of all the libraries that are visited most by the research scholars, faculty, and Postgraduates of the institute. Reference sources such as dictionaries, encyclopaedias, almanacs, atlases, etc. are research tools that help researchers with their papers or project. Reference sources are not circulated and are in a separate reference collection. This practice refers to sources readily available and easily accessible.

  7. Theses & LDs Section
  8. This section refers to a specific area where academic theses and dissertations are stacked and made available for reference reading in the library. Theses are formal research conducted and written by students pursuing higher education, such as master’s or doctoral degrees. The Theses & LDs are a valuable resource for researchers, scholars, and students interested in exploring in-depth studies on various subjects.

  9. Journals Section
  10. The various faculty libraries offer a wide range of journals in their fields of interest to encourage research and enhance the teaching process in the university. A total of 320 print journals are available for reference to the readers. Separate journal reference sections allow readers to sit comfortably and read through the available journals. All the current, as well as back-dated journals, are available in all the libraries. All the subject- wise back-dated journals are systematically compiled and hardbound five yearly.

  11. Periodical Section
  12. It is the section visited most by the readers since it provides recreational and current information in all the fields. Readers have access to around 1500 periodicals on topics of relevant interest. For research purposes, several periodicals are being indexed, and some important periodicals, magazines and newspapers are bounded annually.

  13. Reading Section
  14. A special provision has been made for the readers to bring their own books and read in the cool and conducive atmosphere of the library. This section is very much appreciated by the readers who sit there undisturbed and study. A total of 1100 seating capacity is available in the university library, with separate reading sections for UG Students, PG Scholars and staff.

  15. Digital Library Section
  16. All the libraries are well equipped with separate digital library sections or corners having about 181 desktops with WIFI and LAN internet facilities for unlimited access to online resources available on library OPAC and Digital Library to fulfil the user's needs. The users can access the e-resources and subscribed databases through the Knimbus Digital Library Platform, a product of a web-based interface compatible with mobile devices. Online Central Library System provides authorised access to subscribed E-content through a single interface login. The university has allotted 500-700 Mbps dedicated speed for KOHA to access the resources anywhere and anytime through the web portal for students and faculty.

  17. Reprographic Section
  18. The SGT University libraries are committed to providing complete information support to its users with facilities such as photocopying, scanning and printing at nominal charges. The facility is available during the library's working hours. Scanning of reference books and journals is also available free of cost.

  19. Technical Section
  20. This section of the library is of prime importance; that works behind the scenes and regulates the acquiring and preparing of the material for use into serviceable articles without delay and at minimum cost. Once the books are acquired, they have to be technically processed before readers use them. The main activities here are the classification and cataloguing of the documents. Other processes including pasting labels, due date slips book pockets, accessioning slips and stamping with the library seal are carried out in this section.
